Students may compare/contrast these characters as well.
Questions (may include) contained within edpuzzle:
What was the reason or challenge that August faced with wearing an astronaut helmet?
What two challenges did August face or experience during his school year?
What did the characters imply or mean by asking August if "he knew what an eraser was?"
What challenges did the characters face after making this comment and how did they solve them?
What would you say to August at the time he was upset?
What two challenges did Summer face by sitting with August during lunch?
Day 2
Students (24 total) will be divided into 6 groups of 4 students to collaborate/communicate with one another on the various character traits that 6 selected characters displayed throughout the story of Wonder.
Characters include: Summer, Via, Jack Will, Julian, Mr. Tushman and Miranda. (Alternative characters could include: Isabel and Nate, August's Mom and Dad)
Students will engage in a small group discussion about the assignment together and will compile a list of traits supported by facts from the text. These word clouds will then made public for other students to view.
Each group will then repeat the assignment above in defining and creating a list of traits (10 or more) supported by facts from the text relating to August. Day 3
Students will be placed in "new" collaborative groups to participate in a small group Google Slides activity that asks about the specific challenges that the listed characters faced and how they were solved. Students are expected to include evidence from throughout the text to support their solution.
